GET WHAT YOU WANT!

An advertisement for Whiting & Davis mesh bags in the November 1930 issue of the Ladies’ Home Journal had the answer to the question,

“How can you tell him what you really want?”

Now, you have the answer, too!

“Every Christmas, to many women, comes disappointment – because the gift most desired is not received.”

Is this 75 year old ad on target, or what?

“It is difficult, frequently impossible, to tell ‘him’ your secret wish. Yet, there is a way to get the Christmas remembrance you will prize.”

Christmas . . . Valentine’s Day . . . Your Anniversary . . .Whatever

“From an unknown source . . . there comes to ‘him’ the helpful suggestion, ‘She wants a …Bag – and it is done.”

-- OK, so the original ad said, “Whiting & Davis Mesh Costume Bag,” which we do have, but maybe it is actually one of my spectacular Lucite purses you want . . . .

“You simply fill in now the . . . below with the name and address of the person from whom you wish to receive a . . . Bag.”

Simply click the button below to request that a “subtle message of gift suggestion” (in the words of the Whiting & Davis ad) be sent to The-Person-Who-Loveth-You-But-Hath-Not-A-Clue.

“Without revealing your identity, a message will go to that person suggesting the desirability of such a gift – always dear to every woman’s heart today, doubly so, because of the present vogue of femininity in Fashion.”

  • Translation: I will send a carefully worded letter to the person of your choice saying that you would really like this certain purse from Vintage-Stash.com. I don’t quite know how to translate the “present vogue of femininity in Fashion” part . . . .
